The Junior Preschool program is based on the children’s interests and needs. Our program is planned through daily observations of the children at work and play. Learning opportunities that support children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development are provided daily. The learning opportunities are extended outside the classroom during outdoor play and neighbourhood walks.
To foster independence, staff work with children on developing self-help skills in activities of daily living.
- The children serve their own meals and feed themselves during mealtimes.
- Staff work with children on dressing and undressing for indoor and outdoor play.
- Staff encourage children to use the washroom independently.
“The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences.” -Loris Malaguizzi
ELECT-Early Learning for Every Child Today
The ELECT document is a tool used in our program to support staff in identitying skill development across all developmental domains. The ELECT document is used to support our daily observations of the children and in planning experiences to support skill development. Observations are recorded in each child’s portfolio along with photographs and artwork. Please feel free to view your child’s portfolio at anytime throughout the year to see their progress.
